Whale watching

Whale watching is available from the local port of Prince Rupert. The whale species and numbers fluctuate seasonally but Greys, Orcas (Killers) and Humpbacks are found a short boat ride from the harbour. The experience is simply a wonder.

The tour lasts about 4 hours, usually leaving at 10a.m. The very comfortable catamaran is heated, has flush toilets and refreshment facilities. There are indoor and outdoor viewing decks at 3 levels and friendly staff are on hand to answer questions. The total capacity of the vessel is 100 passengers and there is ample space for all.

Prince Rupert is 75 miles from Pioneer Lodge and the drive is recognized by many, including Readers Digest, as one of the most stunning in the Northern Hemisphere, take your time and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Pack binoculars, camera, lightweight waterproof coat and we suggest wearing layers as temperatures can fluctuate vastly in 4 hours. Breakfast is available at Cowpuccino's in Cow Bay, very near the dock and there are excellent pubs and seafood restaurants at the Cow Bay Marina for those wanting a relaxed lunch after the tour.
